Aging comes with many challenges. The loss of independence, declining health, lack of funds and age discrimination are the potential problems elderly people face. Fear of loneliness increases their worry and makes them weak and inactive and in spite of the fact that they are useful, productive and contributing human resource of our society, they become useless and frail.

being responsible is a noble initiative by Atul Malikram to encourage this productive asset of society to perform their duties through various innovative ways. It is a beginning of a new era in which elders will involve themselves in different social activities after their retirement and benefit our society and humanity at large with their experience. We involve adults in various innovative and productive activities and provide them emotional and financial support. It makes them financially independent and ultimately results in their better health and active lifestyle. Within a span of one year of its registration in February 2012, being responsible has organized 4 health camps, 2 visits to historical places, 35 birthday celebrations, Holi Milan, Deepawali Milan, 26 January and many more events, It runs Two Senior Citizens Day Care centre, provides assistance to needy senior citizens by grocery, runs a mobile Medicare van, which delivers free medicines and through its project punarvivah helps lonely elderly people find their suitable match.

Through Indian Senior Citizens Award 2013 for Social Courage, Being Responsible aims to reward the elders for their outstanding services towards society and strengthen our community and maximize this human resource, which is still neglected by us. The vision behind initiating this award is that every human being in his or her later years passes through this phase. It is our duty to serve this section of society so that in our later years we too are paid back.

The Senior Citizen Award is conceived by being responsible with the view to honor an individual above 60 years of age who shows exemplary courage in fighting the challenges that aging presents to him or her to serve the humanity. This is not only an acknowledgement of their personal achievement but also our way of gently reminding the society what older persons are capable of.

The Indian Senior Citizens Award 2013 for Social Courage will be distributed in a grand event at New Delhi on 1/10/2013 after the appraisal of applications by a panel of judges
